During a Facebook-based conversation, shortly before the US election, a friend said to me, “It’s really disappointing that you support Trump!” His post continued with common tropes: “He wants to be a dictator …” “He wants to replace all government agency heads with people loyal to him and the dollar …” “He's a mad loose cannon…” and, of course, “(Trump) may well lead the world to WWIII or economic ruin, or both.”
He also threw in a couple of new ones: “He has given foreign powers access to US national security and nuclear sensitive information.” And finally: “Economic studies have stated that the US debt will increase to more than double the current amount within 12 months.”
For the record, I have no problem with people challenging my thoughts that I post on Facebook, X, here on this blog, or in conversation. It’s through discourse and conversation that ideas are shared and I always enter a conversation thinking that I may just learn something. As I’ve said, I’ve changed my mind on a lot of things in recent times.
One thing to consider about the upcoming Trump presidency is this: he’s been there before.
Trump was elected and served as president from 2016 until 2020. Reflecting upon that time it’s not difficult to rebuke some of the assertions being made about his upcoming Presidency.
And then there’s the team that he’s assembling around him! Some of the world’s best thinkers, movers and shakers are joining Trump with big ambitions and goals in mind. More on his team, later.
First, to address my friend’s statements.
World War III
I’m not suggesting for a moment that a worldwide conflict will not, or cannot happen because, right now, we’re as close as we have been since the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. Thankfully, back then, the US had a President that was capable of thinking for himself and avoided being led down the path to nuclear weapons being deployed, as recommended by his advisors.
Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for Biden.
I doubted Biden’s ability to formulate an individual thought five years ago.
Under the watch of Biden, the world has witnessed outbreaks of major conflict in Europe and the Middle East. In my opinion, the Ukrainian war is nothing more than a proxy war for the US military industrial complex. Biden (or to be more correct, his “advisors”) are simply feeding the US-based arms suppliers to NATO.
What you may not be aware of, before the conflict broke out, the Ukraine and Russian Governments were ready to sign a peace agreement. The agreement had been signed by the Ukraine’s Zelenskyy and was approved in principle by the Russian Foreign Minister and was awaiting the signature of Putin.
The agreement was then sabotaged by Biden who sent the (then) UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson to Kiev to tear the agreement up.
Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians and Russians are now unnecessarily dead because of this totally avoidable conflict. Trump says that he will end this war in one day once he takes the keys to the Oval Office. OK, one day is probably a bit of a stretch … but I have no doubt that he can stitch this deal together, and quickly. I think that solution is more simple than we are being led to believe. Within weeks of the November 2024 US Presidential election, Putin was publicly saying that he is ready to enter talks.
Then, in December 2024, just weeks after the election, Biden symbolically gave Putin the middle finger and sent long-range missiles into Russian territory to strike military targets. This action is reckless to say the least and highly provocative. These missiles aren’t a NATO weapon, they are manufactured by the US, and used exclusively by the US military, and can be operated by the US military only.
Biden’s actions are obviously designed to escalate the war by provoking Russia to direct conflict with the US. How Russia hasn’t responded by sending missiles into US territory is beyond comprehension. I suspect that the lines of communication are open between Putin and Trump, and it’s Trump’s steady hand that is preventing this reaction from the Russians.
Now, in January 2025, just a couple of weeks before Biden retires, he is talking about drawing Iran into the war. It is perfectly obvious that Biden is deliberately sabotaging US foreign policy with the intention of leaving a horrendous and deadly mess for Trump. Even Hamas has called for peace, which Biden is egregiously ignoring.
If you are old enough to remember the Cold War, you might recall that there was a direct phone line between the President of the US and President of the Soviet Union. There was also a direct line established between the US Secretary of State with their Soviet counterparts. Communication is certainly the key to good relationships; however, everything I have read over the last couple of years has indicated that communications between US and Russian leadership has been ZERO during Biden’s tenure. Indeed, the US press seems to think this is a good thing, and openly condemns Trump for his “friendship” with Putin. It’s an insane black-is-white clown-world that we live in.
Then there’s the Middle East.
The Israeli war was triggered by an emboldened Hamas who suddenly found themselves flush with money (tens of billions of US dollars) and weapons thanks to Biden lifting oil embargoes and sanctions on Iran. The Iranian regime is funding and empowering enemies of the Jewish people to carry out their dream - their stated intention - of wiping every Jewish person off the globe. When they found themselves suddenly flush with funds, billions of dollars, that’s when hell itself became manifest. Under Trump’s first term, Iran was impotent, and its surrogate branches of terrorism were financially hobbled, relying on the UN to fund its rocket attacks on Israel over the last decade or so via the UN’s UNRWA.
It has been said that Trump could find the cure for cancer, and the headlines would read “Trump puts thousands of oncologists out of work”. To say the media is biased against Trump is like saying Kasey Chambers’ singing voice is a little nasal.
Very few people have heard about the “Abraham Accords” brokered by Trump and his team during his last presidency.
The accords are essentially an agreement “normalising diplomatic relations” between the Muslim Arab states of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco with Israel. Israel is, of course, the only state in the middle east offering democracy, liberalism, free markets, personal freedom, and a separation of church, judiciary and state. Israel is the very state that Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran want to obliterate. (That’s what is meant by “from the river to the sea”.)
Other Arab and Muslim states such as Oman, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia are rumoured to be considering signing up and normalising relationships with Israel as well.
How this miracle of diplomacy is not being celebrated for the triumph that it is, and how Trump wasn’t nominated for the Nobel peace prize is astonishing. And now with war in the Middle East once again, the fact that these agreements are holding and not degenerating into something even more unthinkable, is a near-biblical miracle.
And then there’s North Korea.
During the Obama presidency, North Korea was regularly, openly and unapologetically testing nuclear weapons and long-range missiles on a regular basis. They conducted highly provocative exercises such as the firing of missiles directly over the Japanese islands. Tensions were at a boiling point not long after Trump took power, and most of the world shuddered when Trump flexed the US might by telling North Korea that any further provocation would be met with a firestorm of destruction.
Shortly after, Trump established an avenue of communications with North Korea’s Kim, and using diplomacy and all of the skills that a true negotiator could deploy, established clear communication lines and established a relationship of trust.
Soon, the nuclear and missile testing stopped dead, and the world became just a little more secure.
Trump was the first President in our lifetime to NOT start any new wars, despite provocation.
I put it to you that Trump was the most active and effective President in our lifetime working toward the establishment of true world peace.
“He wants to be a dictator”
Critics seem to conveniently forget that Donald Trump was President of the United States for four years already. He had plenty of time to establish himself as a dictator, or even a fascist. There were no signs of this ever happening, and the suggestion that things will be different this time is pure hyperbole. He loves America and he loves the American experience, the American experiment, and the American way.
“replace all government agency heads with people loyal to him and the dollar”
This statement is closer to the truth than any other, but is wide of the mark when it comes to intent.
Trump, Kennedy, Ramaswamy, Gabbard, JD Vance, and Musk, all a part of an amazing team of incredible people, have recognised and spoken out against the deep-rooted corruption that is rife within the US Government.
The aforementioned government agency heads run their departments with impunity and scant regard for the democratic process and/or the wishes of the people. The government of the US has become so large that it is no longer a government “Of the people, by the people, for the people”. Instead it has become a bureaucratic behemoth, which is self-sustaining, self-preserving, and corrupt beyond belief.
There’s no point complaining about the bureaucracy and the difficulties of dealing with it, or complaining that the bureaucracy isn’t working for the people, when you don’t support the leadership team that has publicly stated that their intention is to return the public service back to actual service to the public.
The team that Trump has assembled around him are loyal to the cause, not necessarily loyal to Trump. Most of them were self-declared Democrats until recently . And who better to clean up the Government agencies than true outsiders? The people that are not a part of the establishment, in some cases not even drawing a wage for their services.
So, yes, his assembled team might be "loyal to the dollar", but they are loyal to the taxpayers dollar, and intend to save as much of it as possible.
But that’s not all.
Trump and his assembled team have a bigger picture in mind.
Over the last couple of decades, Western civilisations seem to have lost their way. All democratic nations are suffering from common problems- a loss of identity, internal conflict, a loss of social cohesion, declining education standards, declining living standards, decreased security, unaffordable housing and massive government debt, to name a few.
Trump and his team are promising to return the US to the mindset that made it great, and the example that so many countries including our own have successfully emulated.
The decline of the US can be turned around. And the same lessons apply to Australia.
Personally, I feel very positive about the change of leadership in the US. And friends in the US have also spoken about a new feeling of optimism that’s sweeping their country.
Mr Dutton should take clues from what Trump and his team are proposing for the US.
How about we too have a massive reduction of the size of government, get the budgets under control and insist on honesty in the budgets, dismantle the ‘deep state’ and destroy the authoritarian establishment. Educate politicians and bureaucrats on the theory of liberal democracy.
Let’s recover energy security by abolishing all restrictions on all energy production methods, scrap renewables subsidies and let the market sort it out. Make energy beyond affordable - make it downright cheap and invite a revitalisation of secondary and tertiary industry.
Let our farmers be farmers.
Return water to productive irrigation, scrap draconian compliance regimes, and allow farmers to do what they do best.
Rescue society from the ‘woke’ movement (Marxism by a new name), and denounce and defund destructive climate ideology.
We need to scrap forever any notions of Central Bank Digital Currency, Digital Identity, Digital Passports, mandated medical procedures, “Carbon Footprint” tracing and stupid “15 minute cities”. Abolish censorship by government, media and social media and expose government propaganda and gaslighting.
How about a return of sovereignty and refusing to take orders from the United Nations, World Economic Forum and the World Health Organisation, all of whom are corrupt globalist scams?
Tell them to go whistle. Then defend our sovereignty with decisiveness and fortitude, rebuild our defence force into the very best that it can be.
We need to have a serious discussion about immigration. Immigration levels are at a record high and any benefits to the nation in the medium to long term are not clear.
Let’s return parenting to parents, remove ideology from education, immediately stop the mutilation and sterilisation of children under the guise of ‘gender affirmation’, and resist in the strongest way possible the idea of universal childcare where all children are institutionalised from the very earliest age (a policy that I suspect Labor is taking to the next election).
Let’s make bureaucrats directly answerable (sackable) to ministers and therefore the people, and let’s investigate politicians that move to cushy high-paying jobs with enterprises that are fed off government itself.
Lets restore Judeo-Christian values of western enlightenment and defeat the left wing cult of self-loathing that has crippled an entire generation. Let's do away with the destructive false religions of Climate, Woke/Marxism and multiculturalism, which do not work.
Trump is obviously a hard working individual. You don't become a property developer in somewhere like New York City without being diligent, negotiable, tough and willing to put in the hours. I read that Trump's day begins at 5:30 am, and his day ends with the absorption of news and information into the evening until somewhere around midnight.
Somehow, during all of this, he has found the time to write something like nine or ten books. So, not only does he have a serious work ethic, but is obviously a deep thinker and takes the time to learn about ideas, consider viewpoints, and express those thoughts in a manner that other people can understand. I'm not suggesting that he is a giant intellectual, but writing a book while also managing a massive business portfolio is no mean feat.
Let’s make the west great again.
